Salvation

You may ask what is salvation? Or why do I need to be saved?  Salvation is the most important decision that every individual must make. The Bible says in Mark 8:36-37 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Salvation is not something that a person can earn or merit. It is simply trusting in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The Bible confirms this in Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

In order for a person to be saved they must first realize that they are a sinner. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden all mankind has been born with a sinful nature. The Bible tells us in Romans 6: 23 “For the wages of sin is death” because of sin we are condemned to death. A person who rejects Gods salvation will be eternally separated from God and have to spend an eternity in Hell.

The good news is that God loves us so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to take our place by bearing our sins and dying on the Cross of Calvary. John 3: 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Romans 5:8 “….God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

You may now be asking the same question that the Philippian jailer asked “….Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Salvation has two parts which are Repentance and Faith. Repentance is simply turning from your ways and ideas and turning to God’s way. Acts 17:30 “….but now commandeth all men every where to repent.” Faith is simply believing that Jesus Christ was born, lived a perfect, sinless life, died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Acts 16:31 “….Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved ……” The Bible also tells us in John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.” God’s invitation has been extended to every person, and yes this includes YOU. Romans 10:13 “For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED.

Have you ever come to the place where you have realized that you are a sinner, and personally called on Jesus to save you?  If not, why not today? “…. behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” If you have not accepted Christ as your personal Savior why don’t you come to Him today? HE WILL SAVE YOU.
